Histochemical Study of Mucin Occurring in the Paget Cell of Extramammary Paget's Disease.

چکیده
Extramammary PAGET's disease, occurring in the genital region and the axillae, is characterized by large pale-staining cells, PAGET cells, to be scattered through the epidermis. However, in addition to the occurrence of extramammary PAGET's disease at these sites, a similar epidermal alteration has been noted with BOWEN's disease, malignant melanoma and some rectal carcinoma. Since the differentiation of these lesions is of prognostic and therapeutic importance, methods which provide for their more exact diagnosis would be highly desirable. LENNOX and PEARSE (1954), and others (STRAUSS 1957, BECKER, jr., BRENNAN and WEICHSELBAUM 1960, MURREL and McMULLAN 1962), found the periodic acid SCHIFF-positive, alciano-

Although many histochemical investigations have been reported on the mucin in the cytoplasm of PAGET cells (LENNOX and PEARSE 1954, STRAUSS 1957, JOHNSON and HELWIG 1963, SASAI, AKIBA and TANAHASHI 1964), there are but few reports concerning an enzymohistochemistry in those cells (BRAUNFALCO and RATHJENS 1955, FANGER and BARKER 1959, STEIGLEDER and KAMEI 1963). In general, it is accepted that t...

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a rare skin cancer of the genital region in which cancer cells with enlarged nuclei and pale cytoplasm are scattered singly in the affected epidermis. These cancer cells, called Paget cells, contain mucin, which is never found in normal epidermis. The oligosaccharide side chains of Paget cell mucin end with sialic acid. Sialic acid is easily detected by zi...
متن کاملConcurrence of Primary Cutaneous Extra Mammary Paget’s Disease and Squamous Cell Carcinoma in situ of Vulva: A Case Report
Extramammary Paget’s disease and vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia are common lesions of vulve, but synchronous occurrence is rare in a same location. Herein we describe a concurrence of primary cutaneous extra mammary Paget’s disease and squamous cell carcinoma in situ of vulva in an Iranian women. A 59 year old woman, initially presented to Kosar teaching hospital gynecology clinic April 2017 ...

متن کاملA true epidermotropic apocrine neoplasm in the form of perianal Paget’s disease: a case report
INTRODUCTION Extramammary Paget's disease is an uncommon intraepithelial neoplasm that arises in areas rich in apocrine glands. Treatment includes wide surgical excision and nonsurgical modalities. We present the case of a patient with perianal Paget's disease with no recurrent disease after wide surgical resection. CASE PRESENTATION Our patient was a 46-year-old man of Macedonian ethnicity w...
